Microfiber is a synthetic man-made material which is now being used to make bed sheets. You may already know
microfiber sheets are made out of
100% polyester. Microfiber is a man-made fabric rather than a natural one like cotton or linen. It consists of finely woven fibers but there are several disadvantages to it.
There are many
sheets available in the market but from all of them,
microfiber sheets are considered more affordable when it comes to the cost. Less price means more users but most of the people actually don't know that polyester is less breathable and is probably not the best choice for those with sensitive skin.
Less Breath-ability
A
sheet is called breathable because an air permeable sleep surface ensures a comfortable and safe sleep. Passive airflow is important not only for a good and healthy sleep, it can also save you from allergies and other problems. Keeping the fact in mind that the
microfiber sheets are not breathable, it’s definitely not a comfortable choice especially in terms of hotel rooms where customers expect a comfortable night’s sleep.
Dangerous for People with Sensitive Skin
The
microfiber sheets are not the right sheets for the people with sensitive skin. If you're a person who has a skin that gets irritated easily than avoid using man-made
microfiber sheets. Otherwise, you'll end up having rashes or itchy skin.
Less Environmental
Microfiber sheets are made out of petroleum waste, the process that takes to convert the petroleum waste into microfiber emits fumes which is bad for the environment.
They’re not biodegradable
Every time you wash
microfiber sheets, the fibers become loose. They make their way to your regional wastewater and the fibers are so tiny that the filters do not catch them. Ultimately, the fibers end up in the seas. They’re not biodegradable, so they stick around and often fish end up eating them.
Microfiber Affects Flammability
The surface texture of microfiber affects flammability therefore, it is dangerous for home and hotel use. This fiber can easily attract to the flame that is why it is better to avoid using microfiber in the area where the fire is easily reachable.
Static Electricity
For many people, the first thing that comes to mind when they think of a
microfiber sheet is static electricity. It is supposed to keep
sheets from creating static electricity. These
sheets store electrons that attract other fibers like hair and gets worse during the month of winter.
Slippery Material with Less Durability
One advantage of the microfiber sheets is that it is cheaper than cotton and wrinkle resistant. But keeping the first point in mind, it is less durable which means the low cost is not a good factor.
Microfiber sheets will wear out after a few washes, which means there is no value for your money when buying
microfiber sheets. The sheets are also considered to be slippery
You have always heard about the advantages of the microfiber but nobody has ever told you about how it can be bad for you. Let's keep it simple! If you have delicate skin, tend to sweat more, or want to serve for the better environment, then go for a natural fabric like cotton or
linen.
