Millions of people around the world have restless sleep and wake up with a stiff neck, neck pain, or headaches. Doctors say that the way you sleep and the
pillow you sleep on might be the culprits.
A healthy good night’s sleep is directly dependent on a comfortable
pillow with good support features that allows your head to stay in its natural alignment with your spine.
So, what are the signs of a bad pillow?
Even the high quality expensive
pillows will not last you more than 3-4 years. However, low quality
pillows or the cheaper ones will only remain supportive for a few months.
The main reason for this problem is that the internal supporting materials of the
pillows break down with use and time. It does not matter whether your
pillow is made from feathers, memory foam, generic foam, latex, rubber or any other material –
pillows will eventually disintegrate with time and use.
If you are consistently having the troubles mentioned below it is definitely time to change your
pillow.
- Going through restlessness and/or interrupted sleep along with difficulty in going off to sleep.
- Waking up during the night or in the morning with neck pain, a stiff neck, or a headache.
- Much more comfortable sleep in a hotel or when you are staying or sleeping at someone else’s place.
If you are experiencing any of the above-mentioned signs, it is time that you finally change your pillow.
What Pillows to use?
Gel fiber pillows work best for most people. These
pillows allow your head to rest in a depression or curvature in the center which allows your neck and spine to align properly while you sleep.
Gel fiber pillows allow your neck to rest either on a less elevated side when you are lying on your back or on a more elevated side whilst laying on the sides.
